Tonbridge is poised to welcome a brand‑new pet store: Pets Corner is setting up shop in a newly created retail unit at the back of the old Poundstretcher site. This move places the store just a stone’s throw from Sainsbury’s — a major hotspot being redeveloped — making it perfectly positioned to benefit from increasing footfall in the area.
Established, Ethical and Expanding
What can Tonbridge expect? Pets Corner started as a single family‑run shop in Haywards Heath back in 1968, founded by Mark and Sandra Richmond. It has since grown to become the UK’s second‑largest independent pet care chain, now operating over 150 stores nationally. Pets Corner markets itself as an ethical pet care specialist, with a strong emphasis on natural and wholesomely sourced pet food, plus a wide range of accessories and supplies for dogs, cats, smaller animals, reptiles, birds, wildlife, and both tropical and cold‑water fish.
Competitive Scene in Tonbridge
Pets Corner will enter a local pet retail market already served by Wolfit, located very close by. Both shops will vie for the same customer base, so Pets Corner’s well‑established brand, emphasis on ethical, natural products, and highly trained staff may give it an edge.

Opening Date Still TBD
Renovation work on the back of the old Poundstretcher is underway, but Pets Corner has not officially announced an opening date. Once completed, the new retail unit will provide a bright, modern space awaiting the arrival of the chain.
As Tonbridge’s High Street undergoes major revitalisation — including Sainsbury’s redevelopment — the arrival of Pets Corner is a timely addition. With a strong national reputation and commitment to quality, it could prove popular with pet owners looking for more than just supermarket basics.
