The future of Tonbridge’s main leisure hub is back in the spotlight, as residents are being urged to take part in a public survey on the plans for a brand-new Angel Centre. The consultation is live now and runs until Tuesday 24th September 2025.
This follows our earlier article, New Angel Centre Plans Begin to Take Shape – Tonbridge Residents Feedback Wanted, which introduced the first proposals for replacing the current 1980s-built centre. The project is part of the wider Tonbridge regeneration scheme, with the new facility earmarked for the Sovereign Way Mid car park site.
What’s Being Proposed
At this early stage, the focus is on setting a clear vision and involving the community. While detailed designs are still in progress, the ambition is to create a modern, sustainable and accessible building that everyone in Tonbridge can enjoy.
Ideas currently on the table include:
- A bigger gym with improved equipment
- Purpose-built studios
- Flexible meeting and studio spaces for community groups
- Children’s soft play
- Activities and facilities to support active ageing
- Better changing rooms
- An on-site café
The council is also exploring specialist exercise areas for those with limited mobility, long-term health conditions or in rehabilitation.
Why the Survey Matters
The online survey is quick to complete (it took us less than two minutes). You’ll be asked for your views on which facilities matter most — such as soft play, spin studios, or community meeting rooms.
At the moment, classes like yoga and spin take place in spaces that aren’t really designed for them, such as adapted meeting rooms or the multi-purpose dance studio. As someone who loves both yoga and spin, I’ve avoided taking out an Angel Centre membership for this very reason — the facilities just don’t feel fit for purpose. But that’s exactly why this consultation is so important: everyone has something they want to see in the new centre, and now’s the time to throw your two cents in.
How to Take Part

The deadline for responses is Tuesday 24th September 2025..
