One of Tonbridge’s established local watering holes, The Somerhill pub on Pembury Road, is currently undergoing a significant transformation under new management. Locals will soon have the chance to see the pub completely refreshed as the new team works to complete an extensive redecoration.

The pub, located on Pembury Road, is known to have a long history in the town, having previously traded under its original name, the Somerhill Arms, and more recently, briefly as The Hooden Horse. Its position on the residential road has made it a traditional neighbourhood hub for decades.

Building a Community Hub

Following the change in management, the pub is now being refurbished. The new team aims to bring a renewed energy and atmosphere to the venue, focusing on creating a relaxed and welcoming spot for the local community.

The refurbishment comes at a busy time of change for hospitality in the wider area, highlighting a major push to invest in local pubs. Nearby, the old Hilden Manor has been taken over by the esteemed Elite Pubs group and is currently undergoing extensive works to transform it into a high-end venue. Meanwhile, the Station House pub near the Tonbridge train station is also seeing work carried out to the exterior of the building. The decision to invest in a significant overhaul at The Somerhill signals a strong commitment to making it a fresh, focal point for Tonbridge residents once again.

While the exact details of the relaunch date and the new features are still under wraps, the current work promises a fresh, modern interior while hopefully retaining some of the pub’s historic local character.

We look forward to seeing the doors open and welcoming the new management and the newly decorated pub to the Pembury Road community. More details on the official relaunch are expected soon.
