March is one of our favourite months in Tonbridge. The days get longer, the daffodils start popping up everywhere, and the town feels like it’s waking up from winter. This year is especially strong, with a packed programme at the EM Forster Theatre, brilliant local events, wine tours, comedy festivals, Mother’s Day plans and the return of outdoor food nights.

Here’s your curated Tonbridge Bean guide to March – with loads of ideas so you can pick and choose what suits your mood.

1/ Geek Mania (1st March)

March kicks off in style at the Angel Centre with Geek Mania, a full-on celebration of gaming, comics, cosplay and pop culture. Expect stalls, retro games, costumes and lots of very excited kids (and adults).

2/ Macbeth (2nd March)

A bold, dark production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth lands at EMF. If you like your theatre dramatic, intense and a bit haunting, this is a great one to see live.

3/ See the daffodils

Be sure to take a moment to see some Daffodils throughout March. Usually there are a few poking up around Tonbridge Castle, but you can also visit Penshurst Place or many local National Trust properties for a more formal view.

For something really special, Hever Castle hosts Dazzling Daffodils 2026 – an array of 120,000 daffodils. Included in admission between 16 and 23rd March.

4/ Wine maker tour at Mereworth Wines (12th March)

A guided tour of the vineyard and winery, with tastings. This is such a lovely, relaxed local experience – ideal for couples or a grown-up afternoon with friends.

5/ Othello – 16th March

Back to EMF Theatre for Othello. These screenings are filmed live from the West End and feel surprisingly immersive. Theatre without the London commute.

6/ National Lottery free entry week (7–14 March)

Bring a National Lottery ticket and get free entry to National Trust places nearby, including Ightham Mote and Chartwell. A perfect excuse for a spontaneous heritage day out.

7/ Humble Boy at Oast Theatre

The Oast’s main March production is Humble Boy, running early–mid March. Pair it with a drink or a meal at The Never Say Never next door.

8/ Tonbridge Farmers’ Market (8th March)

One of the best markets in West Kent. Bread, cheese, pastries, flowers, street food… and at least three things you didn’t plan to buy.

9/ Mother’s Day ideas (Sunday 15th March)

Some lovely local ways to celebrate:

  • Lunch at The Never Say Never
  • A relaxed coffee morning in town
  • Afternoon Tea at Hever Castle
  • Free-entry National Trust day
  • Or a full coastal trip to Whitstable, Rye or Hastings

10/ The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show (14–15 March)

Back to EMF Theatre for this one. A colourful, gentle stage show for little ones based on the classic book. Short, joyful, and ideal for under-7s.

11/ Hever Castle: Capturing a Queen Exhibition (Throughout March)

At Hever Castle, you’ll find the brand new Capturing a Queen Exhibition, dedicated to Anne Boleyn. It promises to bring together “the largest ever gathering of portraits believed to depict, Anne Boleyn including a ground-breaking newly identified contemporary image unveiled for the first time.

12/ Hever Castle: Spring Equinox Retreat & Sound Bath (21st March)

A more mindful option – a special Spring Equinox retreat with meditation and sound bath. Perfect if your nervous system needs a reset. A half day retreat amongst the trees.

13/ Tonbridge Comedy Night (20th March)

One of the most popular nights at EMF Theatre. Touring comedians, great atmosphere, and usually a sell-out.

14/ Symphony Orchestra Concert (20th March)

Also at Tonbridge School, this time the Chapel Of St Augustine – a full orchestral concert at Tonbridge School. The concert is free to attend, you just need to book tickets in advance.

15/ Talentz Showcase (21st March)

A showcase of local performers and young talent at EMF. Music, dance, drama — always uplifting and very community-spirited.

16/ Tonbridge Comedy Festival (6th to 8th March)

Exterior view of The Market House, showcasing its brick architecture, large windows, and a sign that reads 'THE MARKET HOUSE.' Small green tables and chairs are set up outside.

The very first Tonbridge Comedy Festival takes over the Market House with multiple nights of stand-up from mid–late March.

17/ Tonbridge Vault events

Downstairs at the Market House, the Vault hosts Friday night clubbing events as well as open mic events (Thursday’s). Follow the Market House Instagram for more information.

18/ Friday Night Fires at Kingdom in Penshurst (from 13 March)

Street food, outdoor fires, marshmallow toasting and drinks under the stars. One of the nicest spring evening events anywhere near Tonbridge.

19/ Paddle boarding season begins

View of a historic castle on a hill with green grass in the foreground, seen from the water on a paddleboard.

With warmer temperatures and (hopefully) calmer river levels, paddle boarding on the Medway starts coming back. Keep an eye on Epic Life and Paddle With Ana for sessions.

20/ Pub quizzes (important dates!)

  • Wetherspoons – Wednesday 11 March
  • Fuggles – Tuesday 31 March

Still two of the best low-effort social nights in town.

21/ West Kent Business Expo (11 March)

Held at the River Centre. Talks and networking. Ideal for small to medium size business owners locally. Entry is free.

22/ Princess Proms at Assembly Hall Theatre (15th March)

A big musical concert for kids who love Disney and princesses. Very sparkly, very loud, very popular.

23/ Yarnival at The Amelia Scott (7 March 2026)

A full festival for knitters, crocheters and yarn lovers. The event promises “a unique platform for artisans, crafters, makers and enthusiasts to showcase their talents, share knowledge and connect with a community of likeminded individuals.” There are exhibitors and workshops throughout the day.

24/ Walk Tonbridge: Spring Walks

March is prime walking season, and Walk Tonbridge has two brilliant guided walks this month:

  • Chiddingstone Circular Walk – a beautiful countryside loop taking in one of Kent’s prettiest villages, rolling fields and classic pub-stop potential.
  • Moonwalk (March Edition) – an atmospheric evening walk under the (almost) full moon, perfect if you fancy something a bit different.
