With Christmas just around the corner, Tonbridge residents planning one final dash for pigs in blankets, mince pies or last-minute fizz will want to know exactly when they can still nip into town for their seasonal staples.

Most supermarkets are adjusting their opening hours over the festive period, so here’s a local guide to key dates and times for Tonbridge’s favourite food shops.

Christmas Eve (Wednesday, 24 December) — Last Chance for Essentials

This is the final day to stock up before Christmas Day itself:

Sainsbury’s — The Tonbridge store is expected to open early (6am) and close by around 7pm, giving plenty of time for last-minute groceries including your turkey trimmings, pigs in blankets, and festive fizz.
Waitrose & Partners — Waitrose Tonbridge is expected to open from half past 7 am to 6pm on Christmas Eve, perfect for premium Christmas food and drinks.
ALDI & Lidl — Both supermarkets usually operate 7am–6pm on Christmas Eve, so aim to visit earlier rather than later for your bulk buys and festive treats.
M&S Foodhall — M&S Foodhall on Cannon Lane is open from 7am to 7pm on Christmas Eve.

Tip for bargain hunters: Many branches mark down unsold fresh items like turkeys, party platters and premium cheeses in the final hour before closing — so arrive with plenty of time to spare if you’re chasing “yellow sticker” deals.

Christmas Day (Thursday, 25 December) — Closed Everywhere

As tradition dictates, all Tonbridge supermarkets will be closed on Christmas Day, so make sure your fridge and freezer are stocked the night before.

Boxing Day (Friday, 26 December) — Limited Opening

Boxing Day hours vary by store:

Sainsbury’s — this is your “go to” if you need anything on Boxing Day. The store in Tonbridge is expected to open from 9am to 6pm on the 26th December.
Waitrose, Lidl, ALDI & M&S — The Tonbridge branches of these stores remain closed on Boxing Day in England to give staff a break.

And After Christmas…

From 27–30 December, most supermarkets return to normal or slightly extended hours — ideal for cleaning out the food cupboards or grabbing bargains after the big day.
