The team behind Planet JJ’s, Tonbridge’s beloved local game store, is bringing something entirely new to the town. On Sunday, 1st March, the Angel Centre will be transformed into a hub of tabletop gaming, niche hobbies, and creative storytelling for the inaugural Geek Mania event.
Running from 10am until 4:30pm, Geek Mania is designed to be a “proudly beginner-friendly” celebration. The organisers recognised that while the world of gaming is growing rapidly, it can often feel intimidating for newcomers. This event aims to strip away those barriers, offering a welcoming space for all ages to discover a new passion.
Learn to Play and Level Up
Whether you have never held a trading card or you are a seasoned strategist, there is something to get involved in. The day features dedicated “Learn-to-Play” sessions for global sensations including:
- Pokémon TCG and Magic! The Gathering
- Disney Lorcana and One Piece
- Riftbound
- Dungeons & Dragons, with sessions specifically designed to showcase the immersive storytelling the game is famous for.
For those curious about more complex tabletop games, there will be showcases for Warhammer and Kill Team. These “drop-in” style sessions allow visitors to understand the mechanics of the games without the initial pressure of investment. Fans of competitive play can also look forward to a Beyblade Tournament run by one of the UK’s top competitors.
More Than Just Games
Geek Mania is set to be a full-scale community festival. Beyond the gaming tables, attendees can explore a wide variety of activities:
- Retro Fun: London Pinball will be bringing three machines for free play.
- LED Sabers: The Vanguard LED Saber Academy will be performing demos of this burgeoning international sport.
- Creativity: A miniature painting table will be available for those wanting to try their hand at painting Warhammer and D&D figures.
- Live Broadcast: GlitterBeam Radio will be broadcasting live from the Angel Centre throughout the day.
The event also boasts a diverse marketplace featuring titans of the UK LARP (Live Action Role Play) scene, such as Gems Trading Co, alongside local favourites like Jo-Jo Cakes Bakery and Station Books.
