Summer Vibes as River Walk Music 2026 Returns to Tonbridge

River Walk Music

The opening night of River Walk Music 2026 brought the town together on a remarkably hot July evening, confirming its status as one of the most anticipated highlights of the local social calendar. The banks of the river were packed with residents securing their favourite vantage points, from the cool, shaded grass against the historic Castle wall to the vibrant, energetic crowds dancing directly in front of the stage on the opposite bank.

A welcome addition to this year’s setup is a second bar positioned on the non-music side of the river, successfully cutting down queues for refreshments. With picnic blankets spread across the lawns, the atmosphere remained distinctly family- and dog-friendly throughout the evening.

Adding to the nostalgic summer magic was the welcome appearance of Alice’s Ice Van, parked up in its familiar spot next to the old HSBC building.

Early Evening Entertainment

The musical line-up built up beautifully throughout the afternoon and early evening, providing a diverse mix of sounds before the headline act took the stage.

The event kicked off with a live DJ set, spinning an upbeat blend of summer tracks that set the perfect background soundtrack as families arrived, set up their picnic blankets, and settled into their spots along the river.

Following the DJ, the Wealden Choir took to the stage. Bringing a powerful collective vocal presence to the waterfront, the choir delivered a brilliant performance that resonated across both sides of the river, shifting the energy of the evening and drawing a large, appreciative crowd ahead of the main performance.

The Heartbeats

Taking the headline slot for the opening night, The Heartbeats delivered a high-energy performance that perfectly matched the summer festival atmosphere. As a highly regarded fixture on the Kent music circuit, this versatile function band is renowned for an extensive repertoire that bridges generations.

Their set list moved seamlessly from classic Motown and vintage rock ‘n’ roll to contemporary pop and indie anthems. Expert at reading an outdoor crowd, the group kept the energy high and the dance floor packed, proving exactly why they were chosen to launch the summer series.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

The event returns next week with another double-bill line-up that promises to draw equally large crowds:

  • Amy Winehouse Tribute Act: Bringing the distinctive styling, raw emotion, and classic hits like Valerie and Back to Black to the Medway waterfront.
  • Ceiron Cole: A popular regional acoustic artist known for delivering soulful covers and engaging live performances that complement an outdoor summer evening.
