The Methodist Church in Higham Lane was filled with music and laughter as the Musical Memories Dementia Choir performed to a packed house for its annual Summer Concert. Sponsored and organised by Tonbridge Lions, the event brought together choir members, guest performers, and local supporters for a memorable afternoon of community entertainment.
Led by Lion President Richard Hill, the choir delivered an uplifting repertoire featuring popular singalongs from classic musicals such as Cabaret and South Pacific. The diverse programme also blended poetry, opera, monologues, and individual solo numbers. Choir members Vanessa Simmons and Geraint Hylton gave standout solo performances, sharing the stage with talented guest soloists Anna Niclaus and Nigel Barham.
The entertainment continued with a varied selection of spoken-word pieces. John Quinton delivered a classic Bernard Miles monologue, while Julie Hill delighted the audience with a humorous reading of a Pam Ayres poem. Providing musical backing throughout the afternoon were pianists Peter Wilson and Chris Coverly, accompanied by Roy Etherton on percussion.
Civic Recognition and Afternoon Tea
Following the performances, Lion James Lark offered a vote of thanks on behalf of the organisers. TMBC Mayor Councillor Kim Tanner, serving as guest of honour, responded with praise for the event and the effort behind it. During the interval, the Mayor joined performers and audience members for afternoon tea, commending Tonbridge Lions for their continued dedication to community service and for staging such a high-spirited event.
