If you’re looking for a new reason to visit one of our favourite nearby spots, this is it — the Leicester Arms in Penshurst, just a stone’s throw from Tonbridge, has been named a finalist in the prestigious 2025 National Pub and Bar Awards.
Every year, these awards celebrate the very best of the hospitality world, highlighting pubs and bars that go above and beyond with quality service, atmosphere, and community spirit. This year, The Leicester Arms is proudly flying the flag for our corner of Kent, alongside two other Kent venues — The Flying Horse in Smarden and The Marquis of Granby in Alkham.

How to Get There From Tonbridge
The Leicester Arms is about a 10–15 minute drive from Tonbridge town centre, making it an easy choice for a lazy weekend lunch or a cosy evening out. Prefer two wheels? The pub is about 6 miles from Tonbridge via the Tudor Trail — a scenic, mostly traffic-free cycle route that links Tonbridge Castle with Penshurst Place. You’ll be there in between 30 and 60 minutes by bike depending on your pace. Walking is also a lovely option; following the Tudor Trail on foot takes about 2-3 hours offering a gentle countryside stroll through fields and woodland.
Make a Day of It
While you’re there, it’s well worth exploring a little further. Penshurst Place, one of Kent’s most beautiful historic houses, is just around the corner — perfect for a leisurely wander through the gardens or a dive into history. The village church, is also a must-visit, with its striking medieval architecture and peaceful setting.
