The Tonbridge Lions Club proudly hosted its 11th Annual Classic Car Tour on Sunday, July 20th, successfully raising vital funds for local charities and good causes. This year, the proceeds from the much-anticipated event are dedicated to purchasing a specialised wheelchair for a severely handicapped young child in Leigh, promising a life-changing impact.
Despite less-than-ideal weather conditions, spirits remained exceptionally high as 40 magnificent classic cars, representing over 90 years of motoring heritage, converged at Tonbridge School. The atmospheric gathering set the scene for the tour, which was officially flagged off by the Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, Councillor Chris Brown, adding a touch of civic pride to the proceedings.
The impressive convoy then embarked on a picturesque journey through the charming lanes and idyllic villages of Kent and Sussex. Participants enjoyed a midday pause for lunch at the scenic Blackstock Country Estate in Hellingly, before returning to Tonbridge School via an alternative scenic route. Upon their return, they were warmly welcomed back by Lion President Phil Jesson and treated to a traditional English Cream Tea, providing a delightful end to their drive.
Lion Mike Edwards, Chairman of the organising committee, reflected on the day: “This was the eleventh year we have held the event. Unfortunately, the weather this year was not very kind to us, but nevertheless, everyone had an enjoyable day out.”
