Looking for a fun and educational way to kick off the summer holidays? Head down to Tonbridge Castle on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 July for a free two-day event that’s making a big splash — Kent Fire and Rescue Service’s Water Safety Fun Day.

Set against the backdrop of our town’s most iconic landmark and just a stone’s throw from the river, this lively event is packed with games, interactive activities, live demos, and expert advice — all designed to help families stay safe around water this summer.

What’s on?

From throw-line rescue practice to learning how to spot hidden dangers beneath the surface, children and adults alike can get hands-on and learn vital life skills — all while having a blast. You’ll even have the chance to meet real firefighters and watch them in action.

It’s all part of Kent Fire and Rescue’s ongoing Make the Right Call campaign, which aims to raise awareness about what to do in the event of a water emergency. As Station Manager and water safety lead James Kitchen puts it:

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our Water Safety Fun Day and enjoying all the engaging activities we’ll have on offer.

We’ll also be talking about our Make the Right Call campaign, which aims to educate people on water safety and knowing who to call if they spot someone struggling in water, so do come and say hello.

Remember, for in-land water rescues, such as lakes or rivers, call 999 for the fire service. If you’re by the coast, ask for the coastguard.”
