Beneath The Market House on Tonbridge High Street lies an unused underground space with huge potential. Soon, it could become The Vault—a multi-purpose venue for music, celebrations, and community events.

The project comes at a time when hospitality businesses face some of their toughest challenges in decades. Rising energy costs, increased food prices, and tighter household budgets are creating a perfect storm for bars, pubs, and restaurants across the UK. The Market House, like many independent venues, has felt the strain.

Since opening, The Market House has carved out a reputation as a friendly, safe, and welcoming spot for good music and good times. Now, owners say the next step in making the business fully sustainable is to bring The Vault to life.

The plan is ambitious: a flexible underground space that can serve both daytime and evening audiences. During the day, it would host wellness sessions, workshops, private hires, and community meetings. By night, it would transform into a lively events venue for live music, comedy, karaoke, and other performances—showcasing local talent and providing something fresh for Tonbridge’s nightlife scene.

Importantly, The Market House has pledged that 20% of The Vault’s daytime usage will be free of charge for local, not-for-profit groups, ensuring the space also benefits the community at large.

To make it happen, they are aiming to raise £30,000 to complete the fit-out, soundproofing, lighting, and operational essentials. The space is almost ready, but needs this final push to open its doors to the public. The Crowdfunder campaign is now live at: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/thevaulttonbridge.

The Vault’s promise lies in its versatility—providing a platform for culture, entertainment, and connection right in the heart of Tonbridge. If successful, it would add something rare and valuable to the local scene: an independent, family-run venue that can adapt to a variety of uses while keeping community at its core.

At The Tonbridge Bean, we think The Market House deserves real praise for taking this bold step. In a time when so many nightlife venues are struggling or closing their doors, it’s heartening to see a local business investing in something truly special for the town. We hope lots of people get behind it and support the project—because Tonbridge’s nightlife will only thrive if we all help make it happen.
