Students across Tonbridge are celebrating today after achieving some of their strongest ever A Level results, with several local schools far surpassing the county average.

Across Kent, 26% of all A Level grades this year were awarded at A* or A. But in Tonbridge, many schools have reported results far above that figure, with a host of students heading to top universities in the UK and abroad.

Tonbridge School
At Tonbridge School, 92% of grades were awarded at A*, A or B, with an impressive 71.4% at A* or A. Almost half of the Upper Sixth cohort (76 pupils) achieved straight A* or A grades. Students have secured places at prestigious universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, the London School of Economics, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Durham, Bath, Exeter and UCL.

There has also been a noticeable rise in overseas study destinations, with pupils heading to institutions such as Columbia, Brown, UCLA, Hong Kong University, the University of British Columbia, and leading universities in the Netherlands, Germany and Australia.

Headmaster James Priory said:

“Our School community is celebrating another impressive year of A Level results, and it is exciting to see our pupils progress to such a diverse and high-calibre range of destinations.”

Hillview School for Girls
Hillview School also celebrated an “outstanding” year, with strong results across a range of subjects. This included six students who achieved straight A or A* results.

Graduates are moving on to apprenticeships, employment, and university study at institutions such as York, Exeter and Manchester.

The Judd School
The Judd School reported its best results since the return of formal examinations in 2022 – and, in some respects, its best ever. Over half of students (53.9%) achieved three grade As or better, while 28.6% of all grades were A*. Twenty-two students achieved four A* grades, and a further nineteen earned three A*s.

Headteacher Jon Wood praised students and staff alike:

“To maintain and indeed continue to improve on the results of the past just goes to show what an incredible bunch of students we are blessed to have and how they encourage one another to outperform expectations.”

Nearly 90% of Judd students have secured their first-choice university or degree apprenticeship places, with more set to confirm places in the coming days.

Weald of Kent Grammar School
Weald of Kent Grammar School also celebrated a strong set of results, with 30 students achieving straight A* and A grades. The school credited students’ determination and resilience, along with the support of teachers, staff, parents and carers.

A spokesperson said:

“We are absolutely delighted and very proud of all our A Level students who achieved such a strong set of results.”

A Year to Remember
With multiple Tonbridge schools reporting A*/A attainment rates well above the Kent average, this year’s results have cemented the town’s reputation for academic excellence. Whether heading to Russell Group universities, international study destinations, degree apprenticeships or directly into the workplace, the Class of 2025 looks set for a bright future.
