A new awards scheme has been launched to celebrate the unsung heroes of Tonbridge and Malling.

The Community Awards Scheme, run by Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, aims to recognise the individuals, groups, and organisations who go above and beyond to make a positive difference in the borough.

From dedicated volunteers and inspiring young leaders to grassroots groups improving their neighbourhoods, the awards will shine a light on those who give their time and energy to help others. Residents are encouraged to put forward anyone they feel makes a real impact—whether it’s a neighbour who’s always there to lend a hand, a young person showing exceptional commitment to their community, or a group tackling local challenges head-on.

The award categories are:

  • Individual Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Community Champion (aged 17 and under)
  • Outstanding Community Group
  • Environmental Contribution Award
  • Community Safety Award

Cllr Des Keers (pictured) cabinet member for community services, said:

“We are proud to launch the Community Awards Scheme, recognising the incredible efforts of those who help make our borough a better place to live. These awards are a chance to celebrate the people who give their time, energy, and passion to support others and strengthen Tonbridge and Malling.”

Nominations are open to all residents in the borough, and the process is simple—just complete the online nomination form at www.tmbc.gov.uk/communityawards.

The awards will offer an opportunity not only to thank those who contribute so much behind the scenes, but also to inspire others to get involved in their community. Whether it’s through environmental projects, safety initiatives, fundraising, mentoring, or simple acts of kindness, these efforts all help make Tonbridge and Malling a better place to live and work.

The scheme hopes to highlight the breadth of local talent and dedication across the area, while giving the community a chance to share stories of those who inspire them.

If you know someone making a difference, now is the time to shine a light on their work. Nominations are open now—don’t miss the chance to celebrate your local heroes.

Deadline for nominations is 5pm on 10 October 2025

Awards ceremony will take place November 2025
