TONBRIDGE, KENT— The true spirit of community shone brightly at St Saviour’s Church last week as Hilden Oaks School hosted its annual Harvest Festival Service, resulting in a mountain of donations for the local Feast Food Bank.
The generous haul of food and a significant financial contribution was part of the school’s ongoing commitment to charity, held under their inspiring annual theme of “Superkind,” which encourages active citizenship among pupils.
A Long and Fruitful Partnership
The event saw the latest collaboration between Hilden Oaks and the Tonbridge Lions Club, a partnership that has successfully supported the Feast Food Bank—based at Tonbridge Methodist Church—for years.
Lion President Phil Jesson and his wife Jo were delighted guests at the service, witnessing the school’s dedication firsthand. During the proceedings, Lion Phil took a moment to express his gratitude for the generous donations of food and funds, and warmly praised the beautiful musical performances by the school choirs and orchestra.
He also thanked the school for choosing the Lions as their charity partner this year, highlighting the value of their long-standing relationship.
A touching moment came from the Year 6 pupils, who contributed special prayers, including one dedicated to the Tonbridge Lions Club, specifically thanking the members for their tireless work within the local community.
Direct Help for Local Families
The impact of the pupils’ kindness was immediate. A significant quantity of the food donations was delivered straight to the Feast Food Bank on the same morning, where it was gratefully received by the volunteers.
In addition to the mountains of non-perishable goods, the school successfully raised £170 in funds, providing further essential support for Tonbridge families experiencing hardship.
“We are always impressed by the generosity and community spirit shown by the pupils and staff at Hilden Oaks,” said Lion President Phil Jesson. “Their kindness directly helps local families and strengthens the bonds within our community.”
