Drivers in Tonbridge are being advised to plan ahead this weekend as National Highways installs the new Old Cock Footbridge over the A21. The work, which forms part of a wider bridge replacement project, will see the A21 fully closed in both directions between Morley’s roundabout (Sevenoaks) and Vauxhall roundabout (Tonbridge) from 8pm on Friday 31 October to 6am on Monday 3 November 2025.
The replacement project, which began in September and is due to finish by 6 November 2025, will bring the structure in line with current safety and headroom standards, helping to reduce the risk of bridge strikes from high vehicles.
Weekend and Overnight Closures
In addition to this weekend’s full closure, a series of overnight closures are also taking place to complete the work:
- Monday 3 November – Southbound between Chipstead junction and Vauxhall roundabout
- Tuesday 4 November – Southbound between Morley’s roundabout and Vauxhall roundabout
- Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 November – Northbound between Vauxhall roundabout and Morley’s roundabout
Diversions in Place
During closures, traffic will be diverted via local routes including B245 London Road, A227, A26 Cannon Lane, Harlow Road, and Woodgate Way, depending on direction of travel. Drivers should allow extra time and follow the clearly signposted diversion routes.
