In a rare display of community recognition, Trevor King, the owner of local vehicle hire firm Twice Recall, has been presented with one of the highest honours in the international service community. On 6 January, Tonbridge Lions Club President Phil Jesson and Lion Trevor Dalladay presented Mr King with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for Dedicated and Humanitarian Services.
The award is the highest distinction bestowed by the Lions Clubs International Foundation, designed to recognise individuals who show an exceptional commitment to the well-being of their local area.
A Remarkable Act of Generosity
The honour stems from an act of significant kindness that took place in March last year. Following the theft of a vehicle from Long Mead Community Primary School earlier in the year, the school was left without vital transport for its students. Upon hearing of their plight, Mr King stepped in to donate an 18-seat minibus to the school.
This donation was instrumental in ensuring that the children’s education and extracurricular activities could continue without further disruption. By providing a reliable replacement, Mr King solved a logistical crisis for the school staff and families alike.
A Historic Milestone for Tonbridge
The significance of this presentation cannot be overstated. In the 75-year history of the Tonbridge Lions Club, this marks only the second time that the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award has been presented. Such a milestone highlights the extraordinary nature of Mr King’s contribution to Tonbridge.
Upon receiving the fellowship, Mr King expressed his sincere gratitude. He spoke warmly of the tireless work undertaken by the Tonbridge Lions Club and praised the organisation for its pivotal role in facilitating the minibus donation to Long Mead School.
