The OBS Gallery has recently unveiled Modern Relics, a compelling solo exhibition by printmaker Matthew Lintott. This multidisciplinary showcase features woodcut relief prints, driftwood sculptures, and immersive audio works, all of which delve into themes of geology, myth, and the concept of deep time. Through his meticulous engagement with ancient landscapes, Lintott invites viewers to reconsider their contemporary relationship with the land and the remote wilderness.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The exhibition serves as more than just a public display; it is a vital educational resource. Lintott has been working directly with Tonbridge pupils through specialised workshops within their art lessons. These sessions allow students to gain first-hand insight into professional creative methodologies and research-led artistic practice.
The presence of a high-specification, “cathedral-like” gallery space in the heart of the school provides a unique advantage. As Claire Hart White observed, having access to high-calibre art twice a year allows pupils, staff, and the wider community to significantly sharpen their visual literacy skills.
Upcoming Artist Talk
For those interested in exploring the contextual approach and creative methods behind Modern Relics, Matthew Lintott will be delivering an artist talk on Tuesday, 3 February. This event offers a deeper dive into the intersection of natural history and contemporary printmaking.
