It’s been a busy few months on Tonbridge High Street, with a mix of exciting new openings, ongoing developments, and a sad goodbye. From fresh food spots to major refurbishments, here’s a round-up of what’s changing in our town centre.

Banning Dental: Opening

Towards the end of January, work began on the former Taco Bell site (14 High Street). A notice in the window indicates that Banning Dental Group are due to open a branch in the premises. Building work was scheduled to take 14 weeks, giving a possible completion date towards the end of April or early May.

According to their website, Banning Dental Group is a “modern chain of dental practices delivering world-class dentistry and skin treatments.” They already operate a number of clinics across London, as well as locations further afield including Woking and Croydon, so their arrival marks a notable addition to Tonbridge’s high street offering.

Pho Vietnamese: Open

The building previously occupied by G Factory Ice Cream Parlour (160 High Street) has now been divided into two. On one side, customers can still pick up an ice cream, while the other has been transformed into a neat and welcoming Vietnamese restaurant.

The new spot serves a variety of dishes including papaya salad, crispy prawn noodles and, of course, pho. Early impressions suggest a simple but appealing menu for those looking to try something a little different in town.

At this stage, it appears the restaurant is independent and not affiliated with the national Pho chain, despite the similar name.

St John’s Yard Bar & Restaurant: Opening

Popular venue St John’s Yard Bar & Restaurant has announced plans to expand into Tonbridge.

The team, who are well known for their food and atmosphere in Tunbridge Wells, confirmed earlier this year that they are recruiting staff for a new opening in the town. While an exact location has not yet been officially confirmed, many locals believe they are set to take over the former Somerhill Pub on Pembury Road, which has been under redevelopment for some time.

The Maid of Kent: Closing

In more sobering news, The Maid of Kent café-bar has announced its closure via its Facebook page.

The venue, formerly known as Gorgeous George, had been serving the community for around 14 years and built up a loyal following in that time. In a heartfelt statement, the owner thanked customers for their years of support and reflected on the friendships and memories created along the way.

The Bridge Deli: Open

While it’s been open for a few months now, we couldn’t resist highlighting The Bridge Deli (119A High Street).

It’s quickly become a favourite for many locals, offering a carefully curated selection of deli goods alongside excellent pastries and coffee. Whether you’re popping in for a quick takeaway or browsing for something special, it’s well worth a visit.
