Philharmonic society announces spring spectacular

The Tonbridge Philharmonic Society is set to fill the Chapel of St Augustine at Tonbridge School with the powerful choral strains of Joseph Haydn’s Nelson Mass. The performance, scheduled for Saturday 28 March at 7:30pm, promises to be a highlight of the local cultural calendar, bringing together seasoned vocalists and orchestral talent under the baton of conductor Naomi Butcher.

Formally known as the Missa in Angustiis, the Nelson Mass is celebrated as one of Haydn’s greatest compositions, known for its fiery energy and complex vocal arrangements. The choice of venue provides an atmospheric backdrop for such a grand work, ensuring the acoustics of the historic school chapel are utilised to their fullest potential.

Esteemed quartet to take the stage

The evening’s programme features a distinguished line-up of soloists ready to tackle the demanding roles of the Mass:

  • Kristina Ammattil: Soprano
  • Maria Willis: Mezzo Soprano
  • Alfred Mitchell: Tenor
  • Maximilian Catalano: Baritone

This ensemble of voices will lead the audience through the emotional depth of the score, supported by the collective strength of the Philharmonic’s choir and orchestra.

In an effort to remain accessible to all members of the community, the society has announced a tiered pricing structure. Standard tickets are available for £17, with a reduced rate of £16 for seniors. Students may attend for a modest fee of £8, while music lovers under the age of 18 can enjoy the performance free of charge.

Interested parties are encouraged to secure their places early. Bookings can be made via the box office at 07778 034 396 or through the society’s official website at tonphil.org.uk.
