Charity Bank Honoured with King’s Award for Enterprise

Tonbridge-based Charity Bank has been awarded the prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development. The announcement, made on Wednesday 6 May, places the local organisation among a select group of businesses recognised for outstanding achievements in sustainability.

Established in 2001, Charity Bank operates on a model that directs savers’ deposits into loans for UK charities and social enterprises. These funds are used to support organisations working toward social change, benefiting communities and the environment across the country.

A Milestone for Values-Led Banking

The award arrives as the King’s Awards for Enterprise celebrate their 60th year. These accolades remain the highest official honours for British businesses, allowing winners to fly the King’s Awards flag and use the emblem for the next five years as a mark of excellence.

Ed Siegel, CEO at Charity Bank, expressed pride in the achievement, noting that the recognition reflects a long-standing commitment to using finance for positive impact. He credited the success to the bank’s staff, customers, and the various communities they serve.

Since 2002, the bank has facilitated over 1,400 loans, totalling more than £605 million. These funds have supported a wide range of sectors, including social care, housing, and education.

Impact on the High Street and Beyond

While the bank’s reach is national, its roots remain firmly in Tonbridge. The award highlights the presence of world-class, socially conscious organisations operating right here on our High Street. By combining financial resilience with measurable environmental and social outcomes, the bank continues to demonstrate that ethical banking can lead to lasting change.

For local residents, the award serves as a reminder of the diverse professional landscape in Kent. Whether through supporting local housing projects or national education initiatives, the work conducted from their Tonbridge headquarters continues to have a significant influence on the social sector.
