The northern end of Tonbridge High Street is set for a further boost as 119 High Street has officially gone under offer. The retail unit, which was recently marketed by Bracketts at a rent of £22,000 per annum, is poised to welcome a new occupant to the “old quarter” of the town.

A shift in the old quarter

This 1,040 sq ft (96.6 sq m) space was previously utilised as a beauty salon, featuring a ground floor retail area equipped with a kitchenette and shower facilities. Its transition to a new lease marks a positive step for this specific stretch of the High Street, which has faced a challenging period of vacancies.

Several prominent nearby sites have stood empty recently, including:

  • Barclays Bank: The long-standing branch closed its doors on 22 October 2021.
  • Star + The Rose: The botanical and floral specialist vacated its retail premises at 119a High Street to move to a floral studio model.

Maintaining local momentum

The news that 119 High Street is under offer is particularly welcome as the community looks to maintain the vibrancy generated by other recent arrivals. The area has seen a successful shift toward independent hospitality and specialised retail, such as:

  • The Market House: Located at 130 High Street, this venue has become a popular fixture for both daytime dining and evening events.
  • Bridge Deli: Occupying the former Star + The Rose spot at 119a, this artisan deli opened in late 2025, offering high-quality provisions and coffee.

Securing a new tenant for number 119 ensures that the momentum of these recent openings continues, helping to fill the gaps left by departing national chains and ensuring the northern High Street remains a destination for residents and visitors alike.
