Pupils at Hilden Grange School received a special visit from the Tonbridge Lions Club on Monday 15 June, gaining a firsthand look at the vital work the organisation undertakes within the local area. Through two engaging assemblies, club members shared insights into their charitable endeavours and celebrated a growing partnership with the school.
Sharing a Year of Community Service
The presentations, titled “A Year in the Life of Tonbridge Lions Club,” reached approximately 300 pupils across two sessions. Lion John Withers, Immediate Past President Phil Jesson, and Rory (Lions Lady Jo Jesson) tailored their message for different age groups, starting with older pupils aged 8–13, followed by a session for the nursery through to Year 3.
Using a series of slides, the presenters highlighted the diverse events, community initiatives, and charitable projects organised by the Tonbridge Lions throughout the year. John and Phil took turns explaining how the funds raised are directly utilised to support individuals, local organisations, and charities, demonstrating the profound impact of local volunteerism to the attentive young audience.
Strengthening Community Partnerships
The visit also served as an opportunity to celebrate the strong relationship between the school and the club. In recognition of Hilden Grange’s valued support, the Tonbridge Lions presented an official club pennant to the Head of School.
This partnership will be actioned once again on Sunday 6 September 2026, when pupils, parents, and staff from Hilden Grange will volunteer for litter-picking duties at the annual Tonbridge Lions Dragon Boat Race at Tonbridge Castle. The efforts of the school community provide an essential contribution to the success of this flagship fundraising event.
The Tonbridge Lions Club extended their sincere thanks to Jess Tait, the school’s Charity Coordinator, whose dedication to student social action and community engagement made both the educational assemblies and the upcoming Dragon Boat Race volunteering possible.
