The annual Skinners’ Day celebrations at Tonbridge School on Saturday 4 July provided the perfect backdrop for the Tonbridge Lions Club to honour an outstanding local student for his exceptional charitable efforts.
The Club’s Service to the Community Award was presented to Luke Coll, a young man who has spent the last four years demonstrating an incredible commitment to supporting others.
Honouring Local Dedication
Vice President Tom Simmons and his wife Vanessa represented the Tonbridge Lions Club at the historic prize-giving ceremony. The event not only marks the conclusion of the academic year but also commemorates the founding of Tonbridge School back in 1553.
The ceremony was attended by around 500 guests, including pupils, parents, staff, members of the Skinners’ Company, and various prize benefactors. Following the formal presentations, Tom and Vanessa met with Luke and his parents to celebrate his achievement.
Luke received the prestigious award in recognition of his remarkable fundraising campaigns in aid of ovarian cancer charities. By organising the sale of thousands of doughnuts over a four-year period, he has managed to raise more than £15,000 for the cause.
A Bright Future Ahead
During their conversation, Luke and his family expressed a keen interest in the work of the Tonbridge Lions Club, learning about the various initiatives and projects the organisation runs throughout the year to assist local charities and the wider community.
“Luke is a charming, modest, and inspiring young man whose dedication to fundraising is truly impressive,” Tom Simmons commented. “It was a pleasure for Tonbridge Lions to recognise his outstanding service to the community.”
The award comes at a pivotal moment for Luke, who is preparing to move across the Atlantic later this year. He is set to study Economics and play rugby at Brown University in Massachusetts. Lion Tom congratulated Luke on his fantastic achievements and joked that his proven talents for selling doughnuts would undoubtedly make him highly popular when he arrives in the United States.
The Tonbridge Lions Club extends its warmest congratulations to Luke and wishes him the very best of luck with his future university studies and his ongoing charitable endeavours.
