Tonbridge residents are set to welcome a major addition to the town centre as the new Tonbridge Banking Hub and Post Office rapidy takes shape. Situated at the former Wimpy site within The Pavilion on the High Street, the long-awaited project is moving closer to completion, bringing essential face-to-face banking services back to the heart of the local community.
Transformation at the Former Wimpy Site
The physical makeover of the prominent central premises has progressed significantly in recent weeks. Renovation work is now largely finished, with workmen carrying out the final touches to the interior and exterior.
A notable sign of progress is the fresh signage that has recently been installed above the main entrance, signalling that the opening of the permanent hub is fast approaching. The conversion restores a key unit on the High Street that had remained quiet since the departure of the former restaurant, giving the building a practical purpose for local shoppers and businesses alike.

A Community-Led Success
The arrival of the new banking facility marks the culmination of an extensive community campaign. Spearheaded by local resident Sally Pierce, the effort gained strong momentum following the widespread closure of traditional high street bank branches across Tonbridge.
Her dedicated campaigning to secure accessible financial services ensured the town was selected for a dedicated banking hub. Local residents and community groups have warmly welcomed the progress, recognizing the crucial role the facility will play for those who rely on cash, in-person assistance, and over-the-counter transactions.

Central Location and Services for Local Residents
Positioned directly in the centre of the High Street, the site offers an accessible location for Tonbridge locals doing their everyday shopping or running errands.
Once open, the permanent hub will replace the temporary arrangements currently hosted at the Tonbridge Castle Offices. Operating as a shared space delivered via the Post Office network, the hub will feature a dedicated counter service where customers from all major high street banks can withdraw cash, pay in notes and coins, deposit cheques, and handle everyday transactions. In addition, rotating community bankers from major retail banks will be available on designated days to assist residents with complex banking queries, account support, and digital services.
