Students across Tonbridge have been celebrating their achievements as schools published their A Level and GCSE results, with strong performances reported across the town’s independent, grammar and non-selective schools.
Tonbridge School, Hillview School for Girls, Leigh Academy Tonbridge and Weald of Kent Grammar School have all shared details of their results, highlighting both exceptional individual achievements and the progress made by their wider cohorts.
Results from The Judd School had not been published at the time of writing.
Tonbridge School records outstanding results
Tonbridge School reported another exceptional year at both A Level and GCSE.
At A Level, 72 per cent of grades were A* or A, including 35 per cent at A*, while 94 per cent of all grades were A*, A or B. More than half of the cohort — 81 students — achieved three A* grades, A grades or higher.
Among the standout achievements was Alex Chui, who was the highest performer nationally in Cambridge OCR’s A Level Further Mathematics B.
The school’s leavers have secured places at universities including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, LSE, Edinburgh, St Andrews, Durham, Bath, Exeter and UCL, as well as a number of leading institutions in the United States and Canada.
GCSE students also achieved record-breaking results, with 50 per cent of all grades awarded at grade 9. Seventy-nine per cent of grades were at grades 9 or 8, while 94 per cent were at grades 9 to 7 — the school’s strongest GCSE results outside the Covid years.
More than half of the year group, 83 pupils, achieved nine or more grades at 9, 8 or A*.
Headmaster James Priory said: “We are thrilled to see our pupils’ hard work and commitment rewarded with record GCSE results this summer and immensely proud of what they have accomplished.”
Hillview celebrates best-ever A Level results and strong GCSE performance
Hillview School for Girls celebrated what it described as its best A Level results, with an average grade of B and almost a quarter of grades awarded at A* or A.
The school gave special recognition to students including Tallulah, Olivia, Ella, Sophie and Emily, with many now preparing to take up places at universities across the country.
At GCSE, 72 per cent of the cohort — 163 students — achieved grade 4 or above in both English and mathematics. Meanwhile, 75 per cent achieved five or more GCSEs at grade 4 or above.
Across all entries, 79 per cent were awarded grade 4 or above, compared with a national figure of 67.3 per cent cited by the school. More than half of the cohort, 116 students, achieved at least one grade between 7 and 9.
Among those celebrating were Emily Scudds, who achieved four grade 9s, three grade 8s and two grade 7s, and Diana Zavadska, who achieved five grade 9s, a grade 8 and two grade 7s.
Hillview also highlighted students who had made exceptional progress during their time at the school, including Coral Scammell and Isabella Atkinson.
The majority of Year 11 students are expected to continue into Hillview Sixth Form or The View@Avebury, while others will move on to new opportunities elsewhere.
Leigh Academy Tonbridge continues improvement
Leigh Academy Tonbridge said its 2026 results marked another milestone in its continuing academic improvement.
At sixth form level, the academy recorded an overall average grade of B- across A Levels and equivalent qualifications, with an A Level average point score of 30.
Mathematics achieved an average grade of B, Spanish B+ and geography B-.
The academy also celebrated its first cohort of T Level accountancy students, five of whom achieved a Distinction. All seven students achieved above Merit, with the cohort recording an overall average equivalent to a Distinction.
Individual successes included Ezra, who achieved an A* in mathematics and an A in Spanish and will study mathematics at the University of Reading, while Dylan achieved A grades in Spanish and mathematics alongside a Distinction in IT and is heading to the University of Southampton to study computer science.
Principal Michael Crow said the results represented “a continuous, multi-year trend of improvement”.
GCSE students also recorded strong results, with an Attainment 8 score of 43.8.
Nearly 63 per cent of students achieved an average grade of 4 or above in English and mathematics, while Spanish, geography and science all recorded average grades of 4.3.
Among the standout individual performances, Alex achieved seven grade 9s, including full marks on all of his GCSE mathematics papers.
Mr Crow said: “Our students deserve the very best, and these results show what they are capable of achieving.”
Strong outcomes at Weald of Kent
Weald of Kent Grammar School also reported outstanding results across both GCSE and A Level.
At GCSE, 29 per cent of students attained an average grade of 8 across their subjects, while 56 per cent of all grades were between 9 and 7.
The school recorded an Attainment 8 score of 67.35, with 381 grades awarded at grade 9. More than 92 per cent of students achieved grades 9 to 5 in both English and mathematics.
Ninety-four per cent of students were entered for the English Baccalaureate, with an EBacc average point score of 6.54.
At A Level, 66.3 per cent of all grades were A* to B, with 34.2 per cent at A* or A. The overall average grade was B.
Seven students achieved three or more A* grades, while 40 students achieved straight A* or A grades.
The school said it was proud of the achievements of every student and thanked staff, parents and families for their support.
A successful summer for Tonbridge students
While each school measures success in different ways and serves different communities, the results published so far point to a strong summer for students across Tonbridge.
From record numbers of top GCSE grades at Tonbridge School to strong progress at Leigh Academy Tonbridge, alongside impressive results at Hillview and Weald of Kent, thousands of young people are now preparing for the next stage of their education, training or careers.
The Judd School had yet to publish its results at the time of writing.
