Barden Bridge at Haysden Country Park has been closed from Monday 28 September for essential maintenance works expected to last up to five days.
The bridge, which provides a route between the main part of Haysden Country Park and Haysden Lake, is undergoing a programme of improvements including the installation of new non-slip decking, path improvements and repainting.
While the bridge is closed, visitors can still reach Haysden Lake using an off-road alternative route. However, there is no off-road alternative available for users of the Tudor Trail cycle route while the bridge itself is closed.
Pedestrians have some alternative footpaths available, although these are limited and include unmade sections. Some routes may not be suitable for everyone because of barriers, steps and other accessibility constraints.
Visitors are being asked to plan their journeys in advance and follow signage around the site while the work is underway.
Parkrun route could be affected
The closure could also affect Tonbridge Parkrun, which uses the route through Haysden Country Park every Saturday morning at 9am.
With the maintenance expected to take up to five days, the works should be completed ahead of this weekend’s Parkrun. However, organisers have warned that an overrun could mean the event has to be cancelled.
“Hopefully these works will be complete by next weekend, but if they overrun we will need to cancel.”
Parkrun participants are advised to check the event’s social media channels or website on Friday evening for confirmation that the Saturday event is going ahead.
The maintenance team has apologised for any disruption and said the works will be completed as quickly as possible.
For regular users of Haysden Country Park, the closure is temporary, with the improvements intended to make the bridge and surrounding route safer and more accessible once the work is complete.
