Tonbridge Lions Club successfully delivered another vital community health initiative on Thursday, 12 September, offering free, walk-in diabetes tests to local residents. The event, organized by Lion Barrie Bromley, attracted strong attendance and reinforced the club’s ongoing commitment to proactive community wellbeing.

A total of 250 people were screened throughout the session. Of those tested, 19 individuals were advised to seek follow-up appointments with their GP to ensure they receive timely medical guidance.

The event took a dramatic turn when one attendee recorded a critically high blood sugar result requiring urgent emergency medical attention. With local ambulance response times expected to be lengthy, Lion Mike Stout stepped in without hesitation, personally driving the lady directly to A&E to ensure she received immediate care.

Events like this highlight the invaluable impact of routine health checks and the dedicated community spirit of the Tonbridge Lions. Anyone interested in learning more about future health screenings or supporting local Lions Club initiatives can visit their website or speak to a member at their next town center pop-up.
