Tonbridge is set to make history tomorrow, Sunday 1st June, as locals and visitors alike don their brightest mismatched socks in an ambitious attempt to break a world record — right in the heart of town.
As part of the Tonbridge Lions Club Community Fete and Parade 2025, the town is hoping to gather over 1,000 people wearing odd socks on the Castle Lawn to beat the current Guinness World Record of 933. The event aims to raise awareness for Down Syndrome and promises to be a joyful and colourful highlight in the community calendar.
The world record attempt will happen at 14:00 on the castle lawn.
Taking place at Tonbridge Castle, the fete will be packed with family-friendly entertainment, charity stalls, arena performances, and a musical lineup including the popular “Musical Memories” choir.
This year’s parade theme, “Read All About It”, invites everyone to dress as their favourite literary character. Participants—whether school groups, cadets, community organisations or individuals—will march from River Walk, over Big Bridge, along Castle Walk, and onto the Castle Lawn, following a marching band and competing for best costume prizes.
The odd sock world record attempt is open to all, and everyone taking part is asked to donate at least £1. Proceeds will go toward local causes supported by the Tonbridge Lions Club.
So, dig out your quirkiest pair of socks, channel your inner book character, and be part of something memorable. See you at Tonbridge Castle!
