The historic grounds of Tonbridge Castle once again played host to the much-anticipated Tonbridge Food Festival this past weekend, and by all accounts, it was a resounding success. Both days saw the castle grounds packed with enthusiastic visitors, eagerly exploring the vast array of culinary delights and refreshing beverages on offer. The festival, a vibrant two-day event, proved once again why it’s a staple on the town’s calendar, drawing crowds keen to sample the best of local and international produce.
The atmosphere was electric from the moment the gates opened at 11:00 on Saturday morning, running until 18:00 each day. Despite a touch of rain on Saturday, which might deter lesser crowds, it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits of Tonbridge’s food lovers. Visitors arrived in droves, armed with umbrellas and an appetite for adventure, showcasing the community’s dedication to this beloved event. “We weren’t going to let a little drizzle stop us!” Sarah Jenkins, a local resident Browse the artisan cheese stalls. “The energy here is just fantastic, rain or shine.” Sunday, in contrast, blessed the festival with glorious weather, adding an extra sparkle to the already festive proceedings and further swelling the ranks of attendees.

This year’s festival delivered on its promise of a diverse gastronomic journey, featuring food and drink produced both in and around Kent, as well as exotic flavours from across the globe. Among the many highlights that captured the attention of visitors were some truly unique offerings. The sophisticated Champagne cave provided a luxurious escape for those seeking sparkling refreshment, adding a touch of elegance to the bustling market. “That Champagne cave was a stroke of genius,” noted festival-goer Emily Clarke. “A lovely way to celebrate the weekend.” For adventurous palates, the Afghan food offering proved to be a popular draw, introducing many to new and exciting tastes. “I’ve never tried Afghan food before, and it was absolutely delicious,” said James Miller.
Cider enthusiasts rejoiced at the presence of multiple cider houses, offering a wide selection of local and regional ciders, perfect for quenching a thirst on a busy festival day. And for those with a sweet tooth looking for a guilt-free indulgence, the slim brownies quickly became a talking point, offering deliciousness without the heavy feeling. These specific highlights, alongside the broader range of products, truly contributed to the festival’s vibrant and inclusive atmosphere.
Beyond the stalls overflowing with tantalizing treats, the Tonbridge Food Festival offered more than just retail therapy for the taste buds. A key feature of the event was the series of engaging cooking demonstrations. Local chefs, talented food producers, and insightful food writers took to the stage, sharing their expertise and inspiring home cooks with new techniques and recipes. These demonstrations provided valuable insights and added an educational layer to the experience, allowing visitors to not only taste but also learn.

Furthermore, many stalls offered enticing free samples, giving attendees the chance to sample hot food from around the world. This “try before you buy” approach was incredibly popular, allowing visitors to discover new favourite cuisines without commitment. The variety of international hot food meant there was something to satisfy every craving, from spicy curries to savoury street food.
The free entry to the festival meant it was accessible to everyone in the community, ensuring that it didn’t prevent anyone from enjoying the incredible spread of food, drink, and entertainment. The success of this weekend’s event at Tonbridge Castle, on May 24th and 25th, 2025, was a testament to the organizers’ dedication and the sheer enthusiasm of the public. It reinforced the festival’s status as a key community event, leaving a delicious impression and eagerly anticipated return next year.
