With Wimbledon fever sweeping the nation, it’s the perfect time to dust off your racket and channel your inner Raducanu or Norrie. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just fancy a friendly knockabout in the sunshine, Tonbridge has some great spots to play tennis—and even try your hand at padel, the sport everyone’s talking about.

Public Tennis Courts in Tonbridge Park

For casual play in the heart of town, the public tennis courts in Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground are ideal. Set within the picturesque park beside the river, these outdoor hard courts are great for a sunny afternoon rally.

You can’t book these courts, and don’t really need to. But pay the hut – £8.70 for the court for adults (per court not per person), or just £5.70 if you’re with the kids.

Local Tip – we love playing early in the morning before work when the park is quiet.

Short Tennis Courts at the Angel Centre

If the weather isn’t quite playing ball (pardon the pun), you may want to book one of the short tennis courts available at the Angel Centre indoors. Courts can be booked for £17.60 for a non-member (with concessions for members.)

Details and booking is via the Angel Centre website.

Join Tonbridge Tennis Club

If you’re after more regular play, social sessions, or professional coaching, Tonbridge Tennis Club might be your next move. Tucked just a short drive (or longer walk) from the High Street at Hugh Christie. There are six all weather, floodlit courts that can be used by members.

There are regular tournaments, active play and team play sessions.

Membership gives you access to multiple courts, organised club sessions, league matches, and coaching. Adult membership starts from around £145 per year, with junior, student, and family packages also available.

The club offers coaching for all ages and levels, including group sessions, private lessons, and holiday camps for kids. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to sharpen your serve-volley game, there’s something for everyone.

Visit Clubspark / Tonbridge Lawn Tennis Club / Home for full details.

Tonbridge School Tennis Courts

Tonbridge School has three all weather tennis courts, available to hire throughout the year. Additional ones are opened in the summer to meet demand. Unfortunately, the courts can only be hired if you have a sports membership for the school facilities.

More details about the tennis facilities at Tonbridge School can be found here.

Try Padel at Tonbridge Golf Centre

Not quite ready to take on centre court? Why not try padel, the fast-growing racquet sport that’s part tennis, part squash, and all fun?

You can now play padel at Tonbridge Golf Centre, which has two outdoor courts and a buzzing community of players. Padel is super social, easier to learn than tennis, and perfect for doubles matches.

Court hire starts at £20 per court, but get in quick – it’s becoming extremely popular! Full details and booking found here.
