Tonbridge residents are facing increased traffic disruption this week as two key roads in the town are currently closed for essential maintenance works.

Shipbourne Road, a major route in and out of Tonbridge, has been closed once again—this time for vital gasworks. The works are part of a planned upgrade to the local gas network to ensure long-term safety and reliability. The closure affects the stretch of Shipbourne Road between Yardley Park Road and Dry Hill Park Road. Diversions are in place, but drivers should expect delays and plan alternative routes where possible. The works are expected to be completed by July 30th or 31st, depending on weather conditions and operational progress.

At the same time, Lyons Crescent, located in the centre of town, is also temporarily closed. The closure, which began in the middle of this month, is due to resurfacing work aimed at improving the road surface and enhancing access to the High Street. As a result, access to some businesses and nearby car parks has been restricted. Lyons Crescent is scheduled to reopen by Tuesday, July 23rd, bringing some relief to town-centre traffic.

The double closure has caused frustration among local motorists and businesses, with many expressing concern over the timing of both projects happening simultaneously.

Motorists are advised to follow signed diversions and allow extra time for their journeys over the coming days.
