Rail passengers in Tonbridge face disruption this weekend as no trains will run to or from the town on Sunday 21 September 2025, while Network Rail carries out engineering work in the area.
The closure will affect services run by Southeastern and Southern, with all lines through Tonbridge shut for the day.
What this means for Southeastern passengers
- Hastings Line: Trains between London Charing Cross and Hastings will only run as far as Sevenoaks. Extra trains will operate between Wadhurst and Hastings.
- Paddock Wood Line: Services between London Charing Cross and Ramsgate or Dover Priory (via Tonbridge) will be diverted. These will run hourly via Maidstone East, with additional stops at Otford and Maidstone East. At Ashford International, trains will split: one part continuing to Ramsgate via Canterbury West, the other to Dover Priory via Folkestone Central.
- Extra trains will also operate between Paddock Wood and Ashford International.
Replacement buses will run on two routes:
- Sevenoaks – Tonbridge – Paddock Wood
- Sevenoaks – Wadhurst (calling at all stations)
What this means for Southern passengers
Buses will replace trains between Edenbridge and Tonbridge.
Travel advice
Rail operators are advising passengers to check before they travel and to allow extra time for journeys, as replacement buses may be busier than usual. Accessible buses will be in operation, but passengers travelling with bikes or luggage may face restrictions.
Full details and updates can be found on the National Rail Enquiries website or by checking station signage on the day.
