The Oast Theatre in Tonbridge is set to host a compelling production of Henrik Ibsen’s “The Master Builder” this May. This particular staging uses the acclaimed adaptation by David Hare, promising a contemporary and stimulating take on the psychological drama.
The narrative follows Solness, a highly successful master builder whose professional triumphs are clouded by deep-seated insecurities. Haunted by the fear that a younger generation of talent will eventually displace him, Solness find himself gripped by a persistent dread of failure.
His world is further disrupted by the arrival of Hilde Wangel, a vibrant and carefree young woman who enters his life claiming they met a decade earlier. Despite having no memory of her, Solness soon finds that her presence will profoundly alter the course of his future.
