The Angel Centre was filled with music and laughter on 14 February as the Tonbridge Lions Club hosted its annual Senior Citizens’ Party. Supported by the tmactive team, the event welcomed 100 local residents for an afternoon dedicated to entertainment and community spirit.
The programme featured a diverse range of performances, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy. The Hartlip Singers and dancers from Dynamic Dance took to the stage, followed by monologues from John Quinton. The entertainment was rounded off by Lions members Geraint, Neal, and Richard, who led the room in a spirited session of community singing.
Tea, Tradition, and Togetherness
While the performances took centre stage, the hospitality provided by the Lions Club volunteers was equally vital. Guests were served a traditional afternoon tea consisting of sandwiches, cakes, and hot drinks, all prepared and served by the members themselves.
A highlight of the afternoon was the meeting between the event’s oldest guest, Ruth Fagg, and the principal guest, Deputy Mayor Cllr Kim Tanner. Their photograph together continued a long-standing tradition for the annual gathering. Cllr Tanner and her husband also joined in the festivities by helping to launch “Heads and Tables,” the Club’s lighthearted signature game.
A Lasting Commitment
The success of the party reflects the Tonbridge Lions’ ongoing dedication to supporting older residents and fostering a sense of belonging within the town. Events like these provide a crucial opportunity for socialisation and celebration, particularly on a day like Valentine’s Day.
