It has been exactly one year since we launched The Tonbridge Bean, and what a remarkable twelve months it has been for our town. When we first started this project, our goal was simple: to provide a clear, independent voice for the community, to shine a light on the stories that matter most to the people living and working in Tonbridge and to celebrate our town.
Reflections on a Busy Year for Tonbridge
One could easily argue that Tonbridge is currently undergoing its most significant period of change in recent memory. From the ambitious proposals within the Tonbridge Masterplan to the evolving discussions surrounding the future of the Angel Centre, and Tonbridge finally getting the approval for its’ own town council, the physical and social landscape of our town is shifting.
Significant milestones have defined this past year, including:
- The Sainsbury’s Redevelopment: Ongoing plans that promise to reshape a central hub of our High Street.
- The Town Council: Tonbridge finally securing its own Town Council, a monumental step toward local governance and community autonomy.
- Urban Planning: The continued debate and development regarding how we use our public spaces to benefit everyone.
As well as that, it’s been such a fun year along the way. With food festivals, sports fixtures, live music, theatre, and celebrating the arrival of fantastic new businesses on the high street. Plus, the first ever Tonbridge Bean Christmas Treasure Hunt.
Through all this, our mission has remained the same: to report on these developments with clarity and a focus on how they impact you and to make sure you’re in the know about events and lifestyle news in the town.
Our Growing Community
We have been overwhelmed by the response to The Tonbridge Bean. Since our first article went live, we have seen the site grow in popularity beyond what we initially imagined. Our subscriber list continues to expand every single week, and for that, we are incredibly grateful.

A question we are often asked is how we manage to keep the site updated while navigating the complexities of our own daily schedules. The reality is that The Tonbridge Bean is a true labour of love, balanced carefully alongside our full-time careers and personal commitments.
It is a juggling act, but it is one we embrace because we believe Tonbridge deserves a dedicated space for local discourse. We aren’t a large media corporation with a fleet of staff; we are two local residents using our spare time to ensure the town stays informed.
