It’s been open for around three months now, but we finally made our way over to The Never Say Never on London Road in Tonbridge to see what the new pub is like.
And judging by its 4.3 Google rating, plenty of people are already fans.
Most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, with lots of five-star scores praising the atmosphere, food and service. A handful of lower reviews appeared in those early opening weeks, mainly mentioning limited vegetarian options — something that still feels slightly true now, although there are a few decent choices on offer.

The pub sits in a really handy spot next to the Oast Theatre, making it an ideal pre-show drinks stop or somewhere to unwind afterwards. It’s also right by the Premier Inn, which feels like a smart addition for visitors staying in Tonbridge who want somewhere modern and easy for dinner or drinks without venturing far.
Like many pubs in the Elite Pubs chain, The Never Say Never is stylishly done inside. The interiors are modern, spacious and comfortable without feeling overly formal. It’s the sort of place that works equally well for a quick pint, a casual lunch or a longer evening meal. And it’s a nice touch to see that the dining room and bar are separated.
Even on a warm evening, we could already imagine ourselves returning in winter after a cold walk, settling into one of the cosy corners with a drink.
That said, summer is where this place really comes into its own.

The huge garden is a major selling point, with a mix of picnic benches under umbrellas and slightly smarter outdoor seating areas. It’s family-friendly too, with a small children’s play area tucked away at the side.

Yes, you’re aware you’re near a road, and it doesn’t have the countryside views you get at places like The Poacher, but it’s still a pleasant outdoor space – and for somewhere this close to town, it works well.
Service was friendly and efficient throughout our visit, and ordering from the table was quick and easy.
We took full advantage of the excellent two pizzas for £20 offer, both choosing the Quattro Stagioni – a classic for good reason. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fired oven and came out crisp, light and really satisfying without feeling too heavy. Exactly the sort of midweek treat you want.

The pizza menu is one of the highlights here. Fans of Elite Pubs’ other venues like The Poacher and Partridge will already know the pizzas are usually a safe bet. The Firebird also caught our eye – topped with BBQ pulled chicken and nduja – and we’d definitely be tempted by that next time.
Beyond pizzas, there’s a broad menu featuring rotisserie dishes alongside pub classics like pies, lamb, burgers and fish and chips.
Vegetarian options still feel a little limited compared to the rest of the menu, although there is a solid pizza topped with pesto and goat’s cheese that sounds promising.
The drinks selection is good too, with popular lagers like Madri on tap alongside cider, wines and soft drinks. Wildshark Vineyard products are also available here, giving the wine list a nice local touch.
Prices feel fairly reasonable overall. Our round – a pint and a soft drink – came to around £9. Not cheap, but not excessive either for a modern pub setting.

Overall, Never Say Never feels like a really welcome addition to Tonbridge.
It may not have the countryside charm of some of Elite Pubs’ more rural venues, but for something within easy reach of town, it offers a stylish space, good pizzas, a large garden and an atmosphere that already feels established despite only being open a few months.
If The Poacher and Partridge are anything to go by, we suspect The Never Say Never will only continue to grow into itself over time. The Poacher has an excellent reputation and there’s already plenty here to suggest this latest addition to the Elite Pubs collection is heading in the same direction. It feels like a venue that will only improve with time.
If you live nearby – or fancy somewhere within walking distance of central Tonbridge – it’s definitely worth a visit.
