The ongoing transformation of Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground is taking another step forward this summer as work officially begins to modernise the site’s popular mini golf course.

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council (TMBC) confirmed that the 9-hole facility has been securely fenced off to allow contractors to carry out a comprehensive refurbishment over the coming weeks. The project is being delivered as part of a wider, phased upgrade strategy to modernise the town’s primary outdoor sports and recreation hub.

A Hat-Trick of Park Upgrades

This latest investment follows a string of high-profile improvements at the 52-acre park, which holds the international Green Flag Award status. Local residents will recall recent coverage by the Tonbridge Bean documenting the successful completion of the newly refurbished tennis courts and the expanded outdoor gym facility.

The upgraded gym space, which opened late last year, introduced high-spec Kompan Fit equipment, a cushioned tarmac-style surface, and specialized weight-training options like fixed kettlebells. With the tennis courts and gym now fully operational, the focus has shifted toward upgrading the family-friendly leisure amenities.

Summer Expectations

The mini golf course, historically managed alongside the tennis facilities with equipment hired from the central food and drink kiosk during summer months, had been highlighted in user consultations as an area requiring modernization.

While the council’s announcement kept specific design details under wraps, the planned upgrade aims to improve playability, refresh the obstacles, and bring the course up to the standard of the newly modernised sports facilities surrounding it.

Barriers will remain in place around the course for the duration of the works, but the rest of the Racecourse Sportsground—including the skate park, children’s play areas, and sports pitches—remains fully accessible to the public. Further updates on the official reopening date are expected from TMBC as the refurbishment progresses.
