The Oast Theatre in Tonbridge is set to launch its highly anticipated new season with a fresh and thrilling adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic gothic masterpiece, Dracula. Running from the 10th to the 17th of October 2026, this production promises to deliver a captivating blend of supernatural tension and contemporary flair.
Bram Stoker Meets the 21st Century
This exciting version, adapted by the acclaimed playwright Bryony Lavery, drags the infamous Count into the modern era. While retaining the chilling essence of Stoker’s original narrative, Lavery introduces a world where the legendary vampire seamlessly combines supernatural cunning with 21st-century technological know-how. Audiences can expect to see a Dracula who is as adept with modern devices as he is with ancient curses, making him a uniquely formidable threat for a contemporary audience.
Comedy and Classic Characters Reimagined
The heroes of the tale remain true to their original moulds, but their personalities and motivations have been updated with current references. To prevent the dark, atmospheric themes from becoming too overwhelming, the adaptation infuses a healthy dose of comedy into the script.
