Outdoor activities in Tonbridge have received a major boost this summer following a £179,000 transformation of the Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground. Funded through a combination of Section 106 Developer Contributions (accounting for nearly 64% of the cost) and council funding, the 69-acre park now features upgraded facilities designed to accommodate visitors of all ages and fitness levels.
Tonbridge-Themed Mini-Golf and Court Upgrades
A standout addition to the park is the new nine-hole mini-golf course, which incorporates local landmarks and heritage into its design. Players can navigate obstacles inspired by St Peter and St Paul’s Church, Tonbridge Priory, Tonbridge Castle, and the town’s Big Bridge.
Rackets sports enthusiasts also have access to fully refurbished tennis courts featuring new perimeter fencing, nets, playing surfaces, and brightly coloured thermoplastic surfacing. A new gate system connected to the Leisure Trust now enables online booking. Additionally, the park has introduced pickleball courts and refreshed court markings for football and basketball on the nearby multi-use games area.

Accessible Fitness and Family Amenities
The expansion of the outdoor gym introduces equipment suitable for full-body workouts alongside targeted apparatus for rehabilitation. A new mobility trail has also been integrated to help visitors stay active. For younger children, the council has replenished the park’s sandpit.
Speaking on the improvements, Councillor Des Keers, Cabinet Member for Communities, noted that the investments make healthy, affordable outdoor activities accessible to more people across the local community.
