Tonbridge Sea Scouts launch fundraising drive ahead of Dragon Boat race

The 14th Tonbridge Sea Scouts are hoping to raise £1,200 to support the group’s sailing and scouting activities — and have already raised £135 from seven donors.

The group is entering a team in Tonbridge’s Dragon Boat Race on 6 September as part of its fundraising campaign. Money raised will help replace its ageing sailing fleet, purchase new equipment and provide additional training and qualifications for its volunteers.

Founded in 1947, the 14th Tonbridge Sea Scouts has grown into one of the largest Scout groups in Kent, with waiting lists across its sections. The group is Royal Navy Recognised and operates as a Royal Yachting Association Training Centre, providing young people with opportunities to gain dinghy sailing and powerboating qualifications alongside a wide range of practical skills and experiences.

Giving back to the local community is also an important part of the group’s ethos. Just a few weeks ago, Sea Scout leaders came to the rescue of Sixty Five mm coffee after the café’s outdoor sign was thrown into the River Medway, helping to fish it back out.

The group says its fundraising will help ensure it can continue providing opportunities for young people for years to come.

Donations of any amount are welcomed through the group’s GoFundMe campaign.
