Exciting changes are coming to the Racecourse Sportsground in Tonbridge! (More commonly known as the park with the children’s play area). Residents will soon be able to enjoy significantly upgraded facilities thanks to a dual project focusing on both the tennis courts and the outdoor gym.
Work has already begun on a comprehensive refurbishment of the existing tennis courts, transforming them into a modern and more versatile sporting space. The improvements include:
- A brand-new hard court surface for improved playability.
- Fresh line markings, which will include a dedicated court for the rapidly growing sport of pickleball.
- Upgraded fencing and new court equipment.
- The introduction of a brand-new access system and online booking for easier use.
But the improvements don’t stop at the courts. Tonbridge residents can also look forward to a complete overhaul and expansion of the outdoor gym next month.
The new facility will be a larger, enhanced outdoor gym with space for up to 21 users at a time. The new equipment has been selected to offer a wide range of activities for all ages and fitness levels. Highlights include:
- An Arm/Hand Bike and a Space Walker.
- A Step-Up Station and a dedicated Calisthenics Unit (featuring a pull-up bar, sit-up bench, and kettlebells).
- Two mobility-accessible machines to ensure inclusivity.
- Floor activity markings for functional fitness.
In addition to the standard equipment, a unique surface challenge will be installed. This feature is designed to support balance, mobility, and active aging, making it perfect for everyone, especially older adults and those using the popular Dementia Friendly Walk route.
With work on the tennis courts currently underway and the outdoor gym upgrade scheduled to start next month, the Racecourse Sportsground is set to become an even more fantastic resource for the Tonbridge community.
