The future of Tonbridge’s retail landscape and town centre appeal will take centre stage this March at an upcoming Tonbridge Civic Society event titled “Our Thriving High Street?” Residents and local business owners are invited to gather for an evening of insightful discussion regarding the evolution of our local economy and the role the High Street plays in defining our town’s identity.
Scheduled for Tuesday, 3 March, the event will open its doors at 7:30pm for an 8:00pm start. The evening promises a balanced look at both the successes we have enjoyed and the modern hurdles facing brick-and-mortar establishments in Kent.
Expert Insights and Local Perspectives
The evening will be headlined by a talk from local estate agent Jack Nutley. With a professional finger on the pulse of the local property market, Nutley will share his thoughts on the symbiotic relationship between a healthy High Street and the town’s desirability for new residents. His presentation will explore how a vibrant commercial centre serves as a primary magnet, attracting families and professionals to Tonbridge.
Following the keynote talk, the floor will open for a broader conversation. Nutley will be joined by a panel of interested parties to discuss:
- The Appeal: What makes Tonbridge unique compared to neighbouring shopping destinations?
- The Challenges: How are local businesses navigating rising costs and the shift toward online retail?
- The Future: What steps can be taken to ensure the High Street remains a social and economic hub?
