August is one of the busiest months of the year in Tonbridge, with the school holidays in full swing and events taking over the town every week. From outdoor Shakespeare beneath the walls of Tonbridge Castle and the return of Tonbridge Pride, to paddleboarding on the River Medway, live music, markets and family adventures, there’s plenty happening whether you’re staying local or visiting for the day.
Here’s your Tonbridge Bean guide to the best events and activities taking place throughout August 2026.
1/ A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Tonbridge Castle (Saturday 1st August)
Open-air theatre returns to Tonbridge Castle as Four Forty Theatre brings its energetic and humorous production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to the castle grounds. Expect runaway lovers, mischievous fairies and plenty of laughs in a performance designed for both Shakespeare fans and first-time audiences alike. Bring a picnic blanket or camping chair, settle in on the castle lawn and enjoy one of the highlights of the summer theatre season. Gates open from 6pm ahead of the 7pm performance. 2/ Parkrun (Every Saturday: 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th August)
Five Saturdays means five opportunities to take part in Tonbridge Parkrun this month. The free, timed 5km event starts at 9:00am from the Racecourse Sportsground and welcomes runners, walkers, joggers and volunteers of every ability. If you’ve never taken part before, August is a great time to give it a go.
3/ Walk Tonbridge Club Walks (Sunday 2nd & Thursday 13th August)
Walk Tonbridge continues its popular programme of guided social walks this month. August begins with the Hildenborough Circular on 2nd August before the Leigh & Haysden Sunset Circular offers a beautiful evening route on 13th August. Both walks are a brilliant way to discover local countryside while meeting fellow walkers. Book your tickets here.
4/ Free Band Concerts at Tonbridge Castle (Sunday 2nd & 16th August)
The popular summer band concerts continue on the Bailey Lawn between 2pm and 4pm. This month’s performances feature Invicta Jazz Orchestra on 2nd August followed by the East Sussex Concert Band on 16th August. Bring a picnic or simply relax on the grass while enjoying an afternoon of free live music in one of Tonbridge’s most picturesque settings. Full details can be found here.
5/ Much Ado About Nothing (Wednesday 5th August)
Changeling Theatre celebrates 25 years of outdoor touring with a fresh, glamorous production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Performed beneath the castle walls from 6pm, this lively version promises romance, comedy and plenty of wit in a perfect summer setting. Book tickets here.
6/ Paddleboarding Throughout August
If you’ve been meaning to get out and paddle, August offers plenty of opportunities – note – currently paddle boarding events are likely to be suspended until the Environment Agency give the all clear from blue-green algae on the river. Check with the providers below as some events may have been moved to another location.
Epic Life hosts its popular Social Paddles on the 5th, 12th and 19th August, with the opening session including a cocktail stop. Their Paddleboard Yoga sessions return on the 9th and 23rd August for those looking for something a little more relaxing.
Meanwhile, Stand-up Paddleboarding with Ana continues her welcoming Ladies Who Launch paddles every Friday morning (7th, 14th, 21st and 28th August), alongside a special Pride Paddle on 8th August.
7/ Tonbridge Pride (Saturday 8th August)
One of the biggest events of the year returns to Tonbridge with the fifth annual Pride celebration. The day begins with the colourful High Street parade before moving into Tonbridge Castle, where visitors can enjoy family entertainment, community stalls, food, live performances and music throughout the day. As evening falls, the celebrations continue with entertainment aimed at an older audience. Best of all, the event remains completely free to attend. Full details can be found here.
8/ Tonbridge Farmers’ Market (Sunday 9th August)
Held on the second Sunday of every month, the Farmers’ Market returns to Sovereign Way between 9:30am and 1:30pm. Expect fresh local produce, artisan breads, cakes, cheeses, meats, preserves and plenty of independent food producers showcasing the very best of Kent.
9/ Scrambled Leggs Run Club (Wednesday 12th August)
Fancy combining exercise with a pint? Join Scrambled Leggs at Fuggles Beer Café for their sociable 5km evening run before returning to the pub for a well-earned free half pint. It’s one of the friendliest running clubs in town and open to all abilities. Full details can be found here.
10/ River Walk Live Music (Every Friday: 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th August)
Friday evenings by the River Medway have become one of Tonbridge’s favourite summer traditions. River Walk once again hosts free live performances throughout August featuring:
- 7 August – The Beard Conspiracy
- 14 August – The Patinas
- 21 August – Gem
- 28 August – Loose Change

11/ Yoga with Goats (Saturday 15th August)
Looking for something completely different? Candice Machtus Yoga returns with the ever-popular Goat Yoga experience. Expect a gentle outdoor yoga session accompanied by curious, playful goats who have a habit of joining in. It’s fun, relaxed and guaranteed to produce some memorable photos.
12/ Wine Garden of England Tasting at Yotes Court (Sunday 16th August)
Discover why Kent is known as the Wine Garden of England with an afternoon tasting at Yotes Court Vineyard from 3:30pm until 5pm. Sample award-winning English wines while learning more about local viticulture in the beautiful countryside just outside Tonbridge.
13/ Hever Castle’s Summer Season (Throughout August)
Just a short drive from Tonbridge, Hever Castle offers one of the region’s strongest summer programmes. Alongside the Festival Theatre season featuring family shows, jazz, comedy, tribute acts and musicals, visitors can also enjoy A Knight’s Tale, an immersive medieval-themed family adventure running throughout the school holidays. 14/ Summer of Adventure at Penshurst Place (Throughout August)
Penshurst Place continues its Summer of Adventure until the end of August with family trails, outdoor games, activities and plenty of opportunities to explore the historic gardens and estate. It’s another excellent option for families during the school holidays.
15/ Open Air Cinema: Bridesmaids (Saturday 22nd August)
Few settings are better for an outdoor film than Tonbridge Castle. This year’s screening of the comedy classic Bridesmaids promises a relaxed summer evening under the stars. Pack a blanket, bring a picnic and enjoy one of the funniest films of recent years in a spectacular setting. Details and tickets can be found here.
16/ Live Music at The Punch & Judy (Saturday Evenings)
The Punch & Judy continues its programme of free Saturday night live music throughout August. Highlights include popular female-fronted indie covers band About A Girl, performing on Saturday 22nd August, making it an ideal stop after the outdoor cinema or a summer evening in town.
17/ Tonbridge Castle Artisan Market (Sunday 23rd August)
The castle grounds fill once again with independent traders, artists, makers and food producers for the monthly Artisan Market. Whether you’re looking for handmade gifts, local food or simply fancy a wander around the stalls, it’s always one of the most popular Sunday events in Tonbridge.
18/ Fuggles Quiz Night (Tuesday 25th August)
Always one of the liveliest quizzes in town, Fuggles’ monthly quiz returns on Tuesday 25th August. Gather your team, grab a locally brewed pint and prepare for a competitive evening of general knowledge, music and picture rounds.
19/ Distance Drawn by Julia Corfe (Saturday 29th – Monday 31st August)
The Tunnel Gallery, tucked behind The Chapel next to the EM Forster Theatre, hosts Distance Drawn, an exhibition of paintings, prints and drawings by Julia Corfe. Open daily from 12pm until 4pm with free admission, artworks will be available to purchase. Families can also enjoy a free drop-in art workshop on Sunday 30th August, making this a lovely Bank Holiday weekend activity.
20/ Open Water Swimming at Penshurst Place (Throughout August)
Tri Swim continues its organised open water swimming sessions every Tuesday and Thursday evening throughout August at Penshurst Place Lake while Haysden Water remains unavailable. Whether you’re training for a triathlon or simply fancy trying open water swimming for the first time, supervised sessions are available throughout the month.
21/ Summer Holiday Clubs (Throughout August)
Need to keep the children entertained? August sees a huge range of holiday clubs running across the area, including Barracudas, paddleboard holiday clubs, sports camps and activity programmes suitable for a wide range of ages.
