Half term always creeps up faster than expected. One minute it’s January, the next you’re wondering how to entertain the kids for a whole week in February, when it’s cold, muddy, and everyone has a lot of energy.

Here’s our local guide to making the most of February Half Term in and around Tonbridge – from big days out to simple, cosy ideas at home.

1. Take Over Tonbridge Swimming Pool

If in doubt, go swimming. Tonbridge Swimming Pool is a half-term classic – warm, active, and guaranteed to tire everyone out. There are casual family swim sessions, toddler-friendly times and space for older kids to really burn off energy.

They also run intensive swimming lessons during half term, which are ideal if your child needs a confidence boost, or if you’d love some time to sit in the café with a coffee while someone else does the hard work.

2. Holiday Clubs at The Angel Centre

The Angel Centre has a few different holiday activities – including SEN events and a Play and Grow holiday club (trampolining, arts and crafts and various sports events).

3. First Signs of Spring at Hever Castle

A trip to Hever Castle always feels special, even in winter. Their First Signs of Spring events are a lovely excuse to get outside, stretch your legs and explore the grounds as the gardens start to wake up.

4. Scotney Castle Half Term Trail

Another brilliant outdoor option is the February Half Term Trail at Scotney Castle. The woodland setting makes it feel really magical, even on grey days.

The trails usually include little challenges or activities along the way, which keeps children engaged and moving, and it’s the kind of day where muddy boots are a sign of success.

5. Museum of Kent Life – February Frolics

If you’re looking for something educational but still fun, Museum of Kent Life is a fantastic choice. Their February Half Term Frolics normally include craft workshops, farm animals and interactive displays that feel more like play than learning.

6. Priory Farm

A little further afield but always worth the drive, Priory Farm is one of those places where you accidentally spend the entire day. With animals, adventure play areas, seasonal events and a brilliant food hall, it’s ideal if you want somewhere that works for mixed ages. It’s also perfect for meeting friends and turning it into a social day out.

7. Penshurst Place – Percy Porcupine’s Party Trail

Penshurst Place is running Percy Porcupine’s Party Food Feast Garden Trail over half term, which is perfect for younger children who love a storyline and a mission.

It combines outdoor exploring with gentle problem-solving and feels like a proper little quest, without being overwhelming.

8. Soft Play at Bewl Water

For rainy days, Bewl Water Soft Play is a lifesaver. It’s ideal for toddlers and preschoolers, and gives parents a chance to sit down while the kids run wild.

If the weather improves, you can easily turn it into a full day by heading outside for a walk around the lake or a bike ride.

9. Steam Train Adventure

There’s something magical about a steam train, no matter your age. Taking a trip with the Kent and East Sussex Railway feels like stepping back in time and always goes down well with kids..

10. Circus Zyair at The Hop Farm

If you want something that feels really exciting, Circus Zyair at The Hop Farm is a guaranteed hit.

Big top, acrobats, clowns and all the classic circus magic – it’s one of those experiences kids talk about for weeks afterwards.

11. Tunbridge Wells Day Trip

A day trip to nearby Tunbridge Wells is an easy way to make half term feel a bit more special without travelling far. You can spend time at The Amelia, which often runs free exhibitions and half-term events and wander around the Pantiles Market on the 14th and 15th of February for street food and browsing.

It’s close enough to be simple but different enough to feel like a proper outing.

12. London Museum Day

Sometimes it’s worth jumping on a train and heading into London for the day. The big museums are warm, free and packed with things children actually find interesting, from dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum to space at the Science Museum.

It’s surprisingly affordable (especially with a rail card) and always feels like a proper adventure.

13. Charity Shop Puzzle Day

Not every half-term day needs to be a big trip. One of the nicest low-cost ideas is letting each child pick a puzzle, board game or book from a Tonbridge charity shop, then heading home for a cosy afternoon.

14. Walk to Tudeley

Side view of a historical stone church with a pointed roof and tall window, surrounded by green grass under a blue sky.

A walk to Tudeley is a great local mini-adventure. It takes around 45 minutes to get to the Poacher and Partridge (which has a kids playground in the garden) and a decent kids menu. You can also visit the church with the mesmerising stained glass window whilst you’re there.

It’s completely free (aside from the pub lunch), easy to organise and guaranteed to tire out little legs.

15. Pub Lunch at Never Say Never

The new family-friendly pub Never Say Never in Hildenborough is perfect for a relaxed half-term lunch. With a kids menu and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s ideal after a long walk.

16. Hot Chocolate Stop

Turn any winter walk into an event by planning a hot chocolate stop at Basil or The Market House. It’s amazing how much more appealing February feels when there’s a warm drink involved.

17. Kids Eat Free at Pizza Express

Interior of a restaurant featuring a bright yellow brick wall, large windows, and stylish seating arrangements. Decorative artwork depicting pizza-related themes is displayed on the walls.

One of the most reliable half-term treats is taking advantage of kids eat free deals at Pizza Express Tonbridge. It’s easy, familiar, and guaranteed to keep everyone happy.

Plus, no washing up, which always feels like a small victory.

18. Tennis in the park

If you have a glimpse of some sunshine, why not grab your rackets and make for the tennis courts in the park? Even just hitting a few balls around for 30 minutes can be a bit of an adventure, and a good excuse to get outside.

19. Cinema Odeon

Take a trip to Odeon Tunbridge Wells, where kids tickets can be as little as £1. Ideal if this rain persists!

20. Make Pizzas or Bake at Home

One of the best and cheapest half-term activities is cooking together. Grab some pizza bases and let everyone create their own toppings, or go all in and bake cupcakes, brownies or biscuits from scratch. Tonbridge has so many wonderful food shops and bakeries for ingredients.

21. Clip ‘n Climb Tonbridge

For an energetic indoor day out, Clip ‘n Climb Tonbridge is a brilliant addition to your half-term plans. The colourful climbing walls are designed for all ages and abilities, with imaginative challenges.

22. Junior Park Run

24. Broadwater Warren Bird Watching

Don your wellies and explore the trails of Broadwater Warren and indulge in some bird watching. A tranquil escape into nature.

25.  Kingdom Penshurst Walking Loop and Basil Café

Enjoy a lovely walking loop at Kingdom Penshurst and treat yourself to some cake and a cuppa at Basil Café.

26. Visit Tonbridge Library

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. Escape a rainy afternoon by diving into a new story, or join a themed event if one’s running at Tonbridge Library. Check their noticeboard for half-term extras.
